Former diplomat Maroof Zaman left his residence in Dhanmondi to go to Dhaka airport to pick up his daughter, but he never reached the airport

A retired Bangladeshi diplomat has been missing since Monday evening, according to Dhanmondi police.

Maroof Zaman, former Bangladesh ambassador to Vietnam, left his house in Dhanmondi on Monday evening to pick up his daughter Samiha Zaman from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

However, the 61-year-old never reached the airport and has been out of reach since then, said Tariqul Islam, sub-inspector of Dhanmondi Model police station.

Maroof’s family filed a general diary with the police station on Tuesday afternoon, said OC Abdul Latif on Tuesday evening.

“We have started investigating the matter,” he added.

Meanwhile, Khilkhet police has recovered the private car which Maroof took to drive to the airport.

Sub-Inspector MA Jahed of Khilkhet police station told Bangla Tribune that they were notified by the local residents who noticed the car sitting abandoned on the street since Tuesday morning.

“We have recovered Maroof’s Toyota Corolla X car from the 300-Feet Street area. The registration documents were inside the car,” he added.
