THUNDERBOLT - A technology for end users to product designers

Thunderbolt technology is a transformational high speed dual protocol I/O that provides unmatched performances over current I/O technologies with 10 Gbps bi-directional transfer speeds. This technology dramatically increases the data transfer rate enabling faster backup, editing, file sharing, significantly reducing the time to complete key tasks.

This technology is based on switch fabric architecture with full duplex links. A thunderbolt connector is capable of providing two full duplex channels; each channel provides bi-directional 10 Gbps of bandwidth. The cables may be electrical or optical using the same Thunderbolt Connector.

Unlike bus-based I/O architectures, each Thunderbolt port is capable of providing the full bandwidth of the both directions.

This technology is specifically designed with video and audio applications in mind with inherently low latency and highly accurate time synchronization capabilities.
